ISLAND CITY — GrandeScapes Nursery, 11001 Island Ave., Island City, is selling all its inventory and closing its greenhouse business permanently on July 1.
Owner Rex Taylor came to La Grande from Enterprise to establish GrandeScapes Nursery a dozen years ago. He built three greenhouses on the 3.97-acre commercial property and developed a nursery primarily specializing in annuals and trees.
Business has been prosperous over the years, and Taylor and his greenhouse manager, Sarah Morris, and other employees are grateful to all those who have supported GrandeScapes Nursery.
“Through the years of serving our community, through many projects, plants and trees, many of you have become friends,” Taylor’s Facebook page read. “We know that for many of you, the nursery means as much to you as it does to us. But our time at GrandeScapes is coming to an end.”
After many years in the nursery business, Taylor is preparing to retire, and he’s looking forward to enjoying other adventures in his future. Ideally, he would like to sell to someone who wants to take over the nursery business at this site.
“Rex has been actively trying to sell the greenhouse as a business for the past two years,” said Morris, who has been employed with GrandeScapes for the past five years and is currently involved with the liquidation of the greenhouse inventory.
“We’re selling all our plant inventory and the greenhouse will come down if it isn’t purchased, and the land will be for sale,” she said.
Morris explained that if someone were to purchase the property as a greenhouse business, it would include the three greenhouses, established plants and a water feature.
“There’s a waterfall, gazebo and fire pit along with many established trees and plants on the property,” Morris said. “We’re the only place in town that sells bulk rock, dirt and mulch. We’re all set up for that. It’s definitely a viable business.”
GrandeScapes has always prided itself in being a source for a wide variety of trees and bulk landscape products.
“We sell little annuals all the way up to 12-foot-tall trees,” Morris said. “We sell large pots and pavers in different styles and colors. The main product we sell are plants and trees, and we had people here with the knowledge to help customers buy the right plants for this area.”
Designing a landscape with the right kinds of plants and trees was part of Morris’ initial job description before becoming a greenhouse manager three years ago. This occupation was a good fit for her.
“If this property were purchased with its greenhouse business, I’d love to stay on and manage the greenhouse for the next owner,” she said.
The inventory liquidation sale at GrandeScapes will be ongoing until July 1 during business hours, Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on Sunday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Unused gift certificates will be honored until the doors close on July 1.
Anyone interested in purchasing the business or property should call the nursery at 541-963-7474.
