Fire officials: Jones Butte Fire 50% contained, evacuations levels lifted

ELGIN — The Jones Butte Fire was 50% contained and all evacuation levels were been lifted as of 5 p.m. Saturday, July 29, according to Union County Emergency Services.

The blaze began July 27 a few miles northwest of Elgin, according to a press release. The Jones Butte Fire grew to 111 acres before crews were able to contain the blaze. No structures were lost in the fire, according the the release.

The Type 4 team is led by Incident Commander Travis Lowe, according to Union County Emergency Services. Fire crews have continued mop up operations and one engine will remain on scene overnight. By 8 p.m. the remaining crews and additional resources will be released from the scene.

The cause of the investigation remains under investigation.
