College women’s soccer: Mountaineers notch top-25 win at Campbellsville

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. — The Eastern Oregon University women’s soccer team picked up its biggest win of the young 2023 season on Tuesday, Aug. 29.

The Mountaineers knocked off No. 20 Campbellsville (Kentucky) 1-0 in a gritty victory. The win improved the team’s record to 2-0-1 on the season.
Eastern Oregon was significantly out shot by Campbellsville, but managed to stay in the game behind a stellar outing from goalkeeper Rylee Schei. The sophomore recorded a clean sheet and made nine saves in a phenomenal performance.
The Mountaineers wasted no time in making their first strike, as Emmy Williams scored on a fifth-minute goal off an assist from Sydney Peck to give the team an early advantage.

Despite a 9-5 shot onslaught by Campbellsville in the second half, Eastern Oregon held strong and secured a narrow 1-0 victory.
Kana Mateaki led the way with four shots, while Williams had two shots on goal. Campbellsville’s Isabelle Presljic recorded three shots on goal, but was unsuccessful in finding the back of the net.
The victory is a solid resume builder for the Mountaineers, who are off to a strong start to the 2023 season.
Up next, Eastern Oregon is set to travel to Caldwell, Idaho to face off with Hope International University. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. Pacific Time on Sept. 7.
