High school volleyball roundup: Panthers pick up a pair of victories

IMBLER — The fans of Imbler volleyball were treated to not one, but two home victories as the Panthers took wins over both South Wasco County and Central Christian on Wednesday, Aug. 30.

Against South Wasco County, initially, Imbler lost only the first set before coming back to sweep the following three sets in a 3-1 win.
Back and forth scoring in the first set pushed the two teams to extra points before the Redsides claimed a 26-24 victory. The Panthers returned in the second and third sets, winning by identical scoring of 25-19. Imbler closed out the match with another close match as the Panthers took a 25-23 win.
After grabbing a water taking a rest, Imbler was back on the court against Central Christian. The Panthers opened the match with a 25-19 first-set win, followed by a 25-16 victory in the second set. Dominating the Tigers in the third set, Imbler completed the perfect day with a 25-9 win.

Imbler (4-3 overall) is back to the practice court for one week as 1A Old Oregon League action begins on Sept. 7 with a trip to Wallowa.
Powder Valley 3, Trinity Lutheran 1
NORTH POWDER — Fans of Powder Valley volleyball have seen nothing but victories on the home court this season. That string continued on Wednesday, Aug. 30, as the Badgers grabbed a 3-1 win over visiting Trinity Lutheran in nonleague play.
The first set of the night proved to be a battle with Powder Valley managing a slim 25-22 victory. The Saints can claim the first set won versus the Badgers this season as Trinity Lutheran pulled off a second set win, 25-15.
The shock of actually falling in a set propelled Powder Valley to dominate the third and fourth sets. The Badgers rolled in the third set to a 25-14 win and finished out the match with a 25-15 victory in the final set to claim the match.
Powder Valley (3-0 overall) was scheduled to open 1A Old Oregon League play at home against Pine Eagle (1-0 overall) on Aug. 31 with the first serve set to go at 6 p.m. This will be the league opener for both squads.
League action will continue for the Badgers on Sept. 5 as Powder Valley is on the road to Cove (0-3 overall) for a 6 p.m. match.
Central Christian 3, Cove 2
South Wasco County 3, Cove 1
COVE — Playing before the home fans for the first time this season, the Cove volleyball team suffered two losses on Wednesday, Aug. 30.
Hosting Central Christian for the first match of the night, the Leopards and Tigers battled for a full five sets before Central Christian claimed a 25-17, 22-25, 23-25, 25-19. 15-10 victory.
In the second match of the night against South Wasco County, the Leopards started strong, winning the first set 25-15. South Wasco County returned in the second set to even up the match with a 25-22 win. The third set found the Redsides picking up momentum, winning 25-20 and closing out the match over the Leopards with a 25-18 win in the fourth set.
Cove (0-3 overall) will look for its first victory Sept. 2, meeting Lyle/Wishram as both teams gather in the Dufur gym for the Dufur Classic. The Leopards are scheduled for a 9 a.m. start with Lyle/Wishram entering the court for the first time this season.
