ESTACADA — Even after many miles on a bus, a lengthy train causing problems and spending the night in a wrestling room, the La Grande girls soccer team remains intact with a perfect record and unblemished defense.

The Tigers made the trip to Estacada on Friday, Sept. 8, to take on Seaside. A stop in Arlington proved longer than expected.

“We were stopped at a crossing for a train leaving town and once we reached Estacada for the game, we only had 15 minutes for warmup,” said La Grande head coach Chris Gianandrea.

La Grande started the match slowly, according to Gianandrea, having chances at the Seaside goal but failing to place the ball in the net. Paige Allen finally kicked one in off her left foot and the Tigers were on their way to a 4-0 victory.

In addition to Allen, Natasha Lane curled in a goal off a corner kick, Rowan Evans picked up a goal and Payton Daggett came up from the defensive side of the field to score a goal.

The Tigers remained in Estacada overnight, sleeping in the wrestling room and were gifted a homemade breakfast courtesy of Estacada mothers.

“I cannot say enough how well we were treated in Estacada,” Gianandrea said. “That is just a super great school and we were treated great.”

Facing Estacada, The Tiger girls faced a high press for the initial time this season.

“That press flustered us some early,” Gianandrea said. ‘We finally settled down after Paige (Allen) scored the first goal.”

La Grande used the Allen goal to down the host Estacada team 6-0. The momentum change in the game came off a save by La Grande goalie Lyndie Isaacson.

“That was one of the best saves I have ever seen at any level of soccer,” Gianandrea said. “She was fully stretched out and really changed the whole tone of the game.”

The Tigers saw goals by Allen and Sarah Garwood coming off a free kick from about 25 yards out.  One highlight for the Tigers was Emersyn Miller scoring her first-ever goal in her career, a kick that sent the bench wild.

Action continues for the road warrior La Grande team on Sept. 12 as the team is back on the bus to The Dalles (0-0-2). The Riverhawks will attempt to become the first team to score a goal against La Grande.
