SHERMAN — After a close loss at the Dufur Classic the previous week to Perrydale, Union logged its first win of the season, a 42-8 victory over Sherman/Condon on Friday, Sept. 8, on the road in Sherman.

The game appeared to be much closer early as the Bobcats picked up the first two scores only to have the Huskies answer with their lone score of the game, all in the first quarter of play.
“It was back and forth early,” Union head coach Jesse Reed said. “I am proud of the boys and the physical football we played in the victory.”
Reed said the Bobcats tightened down on defense after the initial Sherman/Condon score and the week’s emphasis on conditioning paid off against a Husky team flush with players on the roster.

“Sherman/Condon has big kids and have subs both on their junior varsity and varsity teams,” Reed said.
The Bobcats were led by seniors Trae Frank and Elijah Gliddon.
“Trae just caught everything thrown his way and Elijah was big for us on both sides of the ball,” Reed said.
With the victory, Union stands at 1-1 overall and now prepares for its 1A 8-man Special District 2 opener on Sept. 22 with a trip to Crane (2-0 overall).
