High school volleyball: Panthers fall in consolation championship of St. Paul Invitational

ST. PAUL — The Imbler volleyball team is back home after competing in the St. Paul Invitational, finishing up play on Saturday, Sept. 9.

The Panthers started the day in pool play with host St. Paul, Salem Academy and Umpqua Valley Christian in Imbler’s group of teams.

“This was a very challenging pool for us,” said Imbler coach Jennifer Teeter.

Moving to bracket play in the afternoon, Imbler took a 2-0 victory over South Wasco County. The Panthers took a first set win 25-18 and battled in the second set, winning 25-22.

Playing for the consolation championship, the Panthers fell 2-0 to Umpqua Valley Christian for the title. Imbler started the match slowly, falling 25-8 in the first set before making the game a battle but losing the second set 25-17.

“The St. Paul Tournament was a great day of growth for our team,” Teeter said.

Imbler (6-4 overall, 1-0 1A Old Oregon League) is back to the home court and back to league action on Sept. 12 with Powder Valley coming to town. The first serve is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
