BURNS — The Badgers made the trip from North Powder to Burns High School on Saturday, Sept. 9, sporting a perfect 7-0 record. Matches played during the Burns Tournament resulted in two blemishes on that record, one coming at the hands of an Idaho team and a second coming at the hands of the host Hilanders.

After pool play in the morning, Powder Valley opened bracket play in the afternoon against Horseshoe Bend, Idaho. Tasting loss for the first time this season, Horseshoe Bend took a first-set victory 25-18 and rolled over the Badgers in the second set, 25-9.

The Badgers rebounded in the second match of the afternoon, winning 2-1 over 3A Lakeview. Powder Valley, showing no effects of the loss to Horseshoe Bend, won the first set 25-18 before allowing the Lady Honkers back into the game with Lakeview winning 25-21. In the third and deciding set, the Badgers cruised to a 15-9 win.

The second loss of the day, and of the season, arrived as Powder Valley met the host Hilanders, currently the second-ranked 3A team in the latest coaches poll.

Burns only needed two sets to down the Badgers, winning over Powder Valley 25-19, 25-18.

Powder Valley (8-2 overall, 2-0 1A Old Oregon League) returns back to league play on Sept. 12 at Imbler (6-4 overall, 1-0 1A Old Oregon League).
