High school volleyball: Elgin celebrates homecoming with split

The Elgin volleyball squad split their league openers, falling to Echo but winning over Pilot Rock on Friday, Sept. 8, 2023.

ELGIN — Prior to donning the fancy dresses and corsages, the Elgin volleyball team wore knee pads and jerseys, hosting both Echo and Pilot Rock on Friday, Sept. 8, in 1A Old Oregon League volleyball play.

Prior to lunch, the Huskies were on the court in the morning facing Echo to start the day’s action. The visiting Cougars grabbed the first two sets, winning 25-22, 25-16, before Elgin bounced back in the third set, 25-18, to pull the match closer. Echo closed out the win with a 25-20 victory in the fourth set.

The Huskies rebounded in the afternoon with a 3-0 victory over the Rockets. The first set proved to be the closest with the Huskies hanging on for a 25-22 win. Elgin dominated the second set, cruising to a 25-12 win and closed out the league match with a 25-18 third-set victory.

Elgin (1-3 overall, 1-1 1A Old Oregon League) welcomes Riverside (0-4 overall) to the Husky gym on Sept. 14 with a start time of 6 p.m.
