THE DALLES — For the first time this season, the La Grande girls soccer team found itself on the wrong side of a score as The Dalles downed the Tigers, 5-4, on Tuesday, Sept. 12, in The Dalles.

The loss also marked the first team to score a goal on the Lady Tigers this year.

The Riverhawks scored the first goal against La Grande just 30 seconds into the match. The Tigers responded and were up 3-1 at one point in the game.

“Our energy was really low the entire match,” La Grande head coach Chris Gianandrea said. “I think all the travel caught up with us and we just did not play our brand of soccer.”

In the loss, Paige Allen scored two goals, bringing her season total to nine. Renee Hutchinson picked up her first goal of the year and Rowan Evans also put the ball in the net on the day.

“Even in the loss, we learned we are competitive, but we need to learn how to tough out wins,” Gianandrea said. “We just did not play a full 80 minutes game.”

La Grande (4-1-0 overall) take a break from being on a bus on Sept. 16 hosting Fruitland, Idaho, on the turf of Eastern Oregon University. The Tigers previously took a 2-0 victory over the Grizzlies on Aug. 24 to open the season.
