College volleyball: EOU suffers first loss

The top-ranked Eastern Oregon volleyball team suffered its first loss of the season Friday night to Northwest University in a five-set Cascade Collegiate Conference thriller. EOU went up two sets to one before dropping the final two and the match 25-22, 13-25, 25-17, 15-25, 15-12.
The Mountaineers struggled with .091 and .261 hitting percentages in the final two sets while Northwest hit .579 and .429. EOU was led by Sade Williams’ 15 kills, Keira Vaughn added 13 and Madison Morgan chipped in with 10. Morgan added four blocks, Hailey Arritola recorded 14 digs and Alexis McMurtrey dished out 21 assists.
Northwest, which improved to 7-4 overall and 4-2 in conference play, was led by Kaitlyn Mickle’s 20 kills.
Eastern Oregon rebounded Saturday with a three-set sweep of The Evergreen State College 25-16, 25-12, 25-19. Keira Vaughn led the way with 12 kills Hannah Ramage added four aces, Morgan added three blocks and McMurtrey had 17 assists.
The Mountaineers are now 12-1 overall and 5-1 in conference play at The College of Idaho on Tuesday.
