High school volleyball: Tigers split at Sisters Tournament

SISTERS — The La Grande volleyball was out of town on Saturday, Sept. 16, on the road to take part in the Sisters Tournament, returning home with mixed results.

The Tigers opened the tournament with an early 8 a.m. match against 3A North Valley. Even with the early start, the Tigers opened against the Crusaders with a 25-16 first-set victory. North Valley returned in the second set, downing La Grande 25-22 and forcing the match into a third and deciding set. La Grande grabbed the match with a 15-12 victory.

La Grande concluded the tournament with a 2-1 loss to 3A Catlin Gabel later in the day. The 3A school opened the match winning over the Tigers 25-13. La Grande returned in the second set with a 27-25 victory after the set was forced into extra points. The third set also saw extra points needed to declare a winner with Catlin Gabel scraping out a tight 16-14 win.

La Grande (5-6 overall) opens 4A Greater Oregon League play at home on Sept. 21 with Ontario (1-7 overall) coming to town. This will be the league opener for both teams. The first serve is set to go at 6:30 p.m.
