PENDLETON — Cove’s Nolan Barton-Needham ran for 131 yards and also threw for a score on a designed sweep play to lead the Leopards to a 54-12 rout of Pilot Rock/Ukiah on Friday, Sept. 22, in a game taking place in Pendleton.

The victory halts a two-game skid for the Leopards.

The ground game was working for the Leopards as Cove put up 400 yards rushing with only 91 yards coming from the passing game.

“The game gave us an opportunity to work on some things and get the younger kids on the field,” Cove head coach Levi Wiseman said.

The Leopards’ Wyatt Burgess came in from his receiver position to run for 126 yards while also picking up 39 yards receiving.

Cove (2-2 overall, 0-1 1A 8-Man Special District 2) celebrates homecoming welcoming Union (1-2 overall, 0-1 1A 8-Man Special District 2) on Sept. 29.

“Union is always an intense game and this will be a busy week for us,” Wiseman said.

Adrian 50, Powder Valley 16

ADRIAN — Powder Valley continues to search for its first victory of the year after the Badgers dropped a 50-16 decision to Adrian on Friday, Sept. 22, in Adrian. The loss marked the second 1A 8-Man Special District 2 loss for the Badgers who are now 0-4 on the year.

“We did go toe to toe with Adrian to start the game,” Powder Valley head coach Josh Cobb. “I was proud of our run defense. The Antelopes only scored once rushing. We had a couple good drives going that we just could not finish.”

Cobb said the quick defense of Adrian stopped the Badgers from entering into a flow for the game and the Lopes swarmed on tackles.

“I was proud our kids never folded,” he said. “We are getting better every week.”

Sophomore Ezra Thomas did pick off an Adrian pass early in the game, a high point for the Badgers.

“Hunter Martin is definitely the bright spot of our defense, week in and week out,” Cobb said. “Tucker Martin ran the ball well against a tough and fast Adrian defense.”

Powder Valley (0-4 overall, 0-2 1A 8-Man Special District 2) is again on the road Sept. 29 with a district game at Imbler (3-1 overall, 1-1 1A 8-Man Special District 2).
