Statewide music teachers association brings free pianist lectures to La Grande

LA GRANDE — The Blue Mountain District of the Oregon Music Teachers Association in partnership with the Oregon Community Foundation and the Nellie Tholen Fund will present two free lectures, back to back, for pianists, piano teachers and all who would be interested on Saturday, Sept. 30, 2023, at Groth Recital Hall, on the Eastern Oregon University campus in La Grande.

Presented by Dr. Michelle Huang, the two-hour lectures begin at 10 a.m. and at 1:30 p.m.: “Creating Beautiful Tone in Piano Playing” in the morning and “Playing What’s NOT on the Page — Cultivating Creativity” in the afternoon.
No pre-registration, membership or admission fee is required.
About Dr. Michelle Huang
A native of Taiwan, pianist Michelle Huang has performed and taught extensively throughout the U.S. as well as abroad in the Czech Republic, Italy, Switzerland and Taiwan. She is described as a pianist with much sensibility and nuance, according to a press release.
In addition to teaching in the collegiate setting, Huang also maintains a private studio, where she works with talented pre-college students both in her Seattle studio and online. A frequent presenter and adjudicator, she is a visiting artist for the Washington State Music Teachers Association. Many of her students have won top awards and successfully pursued studies and careers in music.
