High school cross-country: La Grande girls hold off Wallowa Valley to win Tiger Invite

LA GRANDE — The local golfers stayed in the clubhouse with a cup of coffee, while La Grande, Wallowa Valley and Imbler cross-country runners took over the course at the La Grande Country Club for the Tiger Invite on Friday, Oct. 6.

In addition to hosting the race, the La Grande girls won the team title, holding off Wallowa Valley. La Grande scored 22 points, while the Outlaws put up 35 points. Imbler placed third with 84 points.
La Grande sophomore Brooke Perry and Cecilia Villagomez swapped finishes from their last race, this time with Perry beating out her teammate. Perry finished the 5,000 meters in 19 minutes, 18.70 seconds while Villagomez crossed the finish in 19:47.30. Senior Emily Tubbs placed third followed by senior Kiah Carlson in fourth.
Imbler junior Paiten Braseth picked up a top-five finish, placing fifth with a time of 21:43.90.

The La Grande boys team placed second in the team standings behind Wallowa Valley, with the Tigers putting 56 points on the board compared to the Outlaws’ point total of 21 points. The Imbler boys finished with 59 points.
Finishing behind only two Outlaw runners, Imbler junior Adam Gordon picked up third place, running a time of 18:12.10. La Grande’s sole top-10 finish came with junior Josef Simonis placing fourth with a time of 18:41.90.
