JOSEPH — Fall work days at Ferguson Ridge Ski Area have begun and volunteers are needed to prepare for the 2023-24 ski season.

Ferguson Ridge is a volunteer-run ski hill. Without volunteers, there would not even be a ski hill, a press release pointed out, saying that volunteer spirit shapes the ski runs, builds the lodges and so much more.

The Sunday work days run from noon to 5 p.m. at the ski area, on Tucker Down Road east of Joseph. The work days are scheduled for Oct. 22 and Oct. 29 and Nov. 5, Nov. 12 and Nov. 19.

For this season, the following duties need to be tackled:

• Thinning.

• Piling and burning brush.

• Cutting and stacking firewood for the lodge, voodoo and ski shack.

• Cleaning the inside and outside of the lodge as well as the windows.

• Cleaning the inside and outside of the voodoo as well as the windows.

• Cleaning the bathrooms.

• Picking up trash around the ski hill.

• Clearing and opening up ski runs.

Volunteers are asked to check in with a hill manager when they arrive for a specific task for the day. Volunteers are responsible for coming prepared for the work (e.g., appropriate clothes, food, water, work gloves and equipment if they have it).

Contact Ferguson Ridge Manager Scott Miller at 541-490-5628 with questions and to coordinate cleaning supplies.
