LA GRANDE — After not seeing one ball go into the opposition’s net last week in two matches, La Grande more than made up for it on Thursday, Oct. 12, downing Baker, 6-0, in 4A Greater Oregon League play.

“We played so much better today than we did last week,” La Grande head coach Chris Gianandrea said. “We played Baker better this time than even last time we met the Bulldogs.”

After putting up three goals in the first half, Tiger fans saw Gianandrea use a majority of swing players in the second half, even then adding three more goals to the total.

One of those taking the field in the second half was senior Samantha Vavra, scoring her first goal of the season for La Grande and the last goal of the game.

“We created chances early in this match and took advantage,” Gianandrea said. “We played a full 80 minutes of soccer in this one and it showed.”

The victory sets up a match for next week to determine what team will lead the 4A Greater Oregon League. Ontario (6-3-2 overall, 3-1 4A Greater Oregon League) will visit La Grande (8-3 overall, 3-1 4A Greater Oregon League) on Oct. 19 for a 5 p.m. game. The victor will possess the outright lead in league play.

In the two team’s previous match, La Grande drove out of Ontario with a 1-0 victory on Sept. 26.
