High school volleyball: Top-ranked Marshfield ends La Grande’s season

MARSHFIELD — If La Grande could pull it off, defeating top-seeded Marshfield would have been the largest upset in the 4A state volleyball tournament. It was not to be as the 16th-seeded Tigers fell to the Pirates 25-14, 25-11, 25-19 in the first round of the OSAA Class 4A state tournament on Saturday, Oct. 28, in the Marshfield gym.

La Grande hands in their jerseys after a 10-12 overall record and a second-place showing in the 4A Greater Oregon League with a 3-3 league record.
Individual and game statistics were not provided.
Head coach Melinda Becker-Bisenius will take the court next season minus the play of outgoing seniors Makenna Shaw, team captain Dylann Justice, Belle Neer, Rylan Mellinger and team captain Avery Meyer.

“Our senior leadership has been outstanding this season,” Becker-Bisenius said. “These girls will be missed but we look forward to next season as we have a great group returning.”
