Men’s wrestling: Mountaineers open season with two wins

LA GRANDE – The Eastern Oregon men’s wrestling team opened up its 2023-24 season by winning a pair of duals over The Evergreen State College (51-(-1)) and Corban (20-19) on Saturday.

Against the Geoducks, every Mountaineer earned a victory and the Geoducks were penalized a team point.
Hunter Sparks (125 pounds), Josh Collins (149), Wylee Lindeen (174) and Kyle Knudtson (184) all won by pin for EOU in the dual.
Against Corban, the Mountaineers got off to a hot start winning the first three matches of the dual, highlighted by a Braden Carson pin of Lance Stover at 133 to jump out to a 14-0 lead.

The Warriors bounced back by taking each of the next four matches to take a lead 16-14 lead. Knudtson regained the lead for the Mountaineers after securing a 10-4 decision victory over Isaiah Twait at 184. Jay Smith secured the victory for EOU at 197 with a 7-1 decision victory over Tyson Stover.
