College men’s wrestling: Eastern takes part in Spokane Open

SPOKANE, Wash. — Eastern Oregon men’s wrestling returned to action Sunday, Nov. 19, taking part in the Spokane Open. Eastern ultimately placed two wrestlers in the top six of their respective weight divisions.

The first was Hunter Kemper opened with a pin 3 minutes, 47 seconds into the match over Seth Dawkins of The Evergreen State College at 157 pounds. He followed with another pin in 34 seconds into the match over Austin Nine, who wrestled unattached. Montana State-Northern’s Justin Windauer of won by major decision over Kemper in the semifinals, and Kemper dropped a wrestleback to Montana State-Northern’s Ryan Graves of by technical fall. In the fifth-place match, Kemper fell to Dougie Swanson of Providence to take sixth.
Darrian Hoobery also finished sixth for the Mountaineers at heavyweight. Hoobery secured a victory in his first match by pin with J`Bari Michaels of The Evergreen State College. He would go on to take his next match as well, this time by 6-2 decision over Jakob Conners, wrestling unattached. Hoobery dropped his final two matches of the day resulting in a sixth-place finish.
Eastern Oregon will be back in action Saturday, Dec. 2 as they will take on the Geoducks of The Evergreen State College.
