High school volleyball: Badgers land a pair, Bobcats one on 1A-All-State team

NORTH POWDER — With the release of the 1A All-State Volleyball Team on Monday, Nov. 27, local volleyball fans will recognize two Powder Valley players and a Union player.

Powder Valley finds both players named to the listing on first team as senior Jacey Anderson is joined by sophomore Sky Nesser on the top tier of players.
Union junior Paisley Miller will have one more year on the court after picking up second-team honors.
After leading the Crane Mustangs to a state title, Crane senior Kortney Doman was chosen Player of the Year and was joined by her coach Maddye Wester as Coach of the Year.

Local volleyball fans will also recognize Adrian junior Addy Martin (second team), Joseph senior Cooper Nave (second team), Joseph sophomore Aimee Meyers (second team) and Adrian senior Presley Speelmon (second team).
Named to honorable mention were Crane sophomore Ave Bowen and South Wasco County senior Anabell Udey.
LA GRANDE — The La Grande football season was filled with injuries and uncharacteristic tough losses, but a number of individuals stood out in the eyes of the 4A Special District 5 coaches. After voting by coaches of the league, a total of 11 La Grande players were honored for their contributions for the season.
La Grande was shut out in the voting for first-team honors.
Sophomore Beckham Hibbert picked up second-team listing for his work on the defensive line. Senior Dominic Fields was selected to the second team as a linebacker, and senior Mason Wolcott departs La Grande football with second-team honors as a defensive back.
Senior Griffin Mcllmoil was named second team as a utility player.
Senior linebacker David Sain was selected honorable mention as were senior kicker Korey Newman and sophomore defensive back Weston Harris.
On the offensive side of the ball, senior Ridge Kehr’s work at tight end earned second-team honors.
Senior Tiger quarterback Carter Peasley was named honorable mention for his work guiding the La Grande offense, and senior Evan Elenes also picked up honorable mention consideration as an offensive lineman. Senior center Lakoda Huff was also chosen honorable mention.
The Tigers finished fifth in Special District 5 with a 1-4 record and were 2-7 overall on the season.
LA GRANDE — After taking a 4A Greater Oregon League title, the La Grande girls soccer team had eight players chosen for all-league selections after a voting of the league’s coaches.
Four of the eight Tigers named picked up first-team honors, including seniors Kaitlin Brock and Maezie Wilcox, both playing their final seasons of high school soccer. Joining the seniors were junior Paige Allen and sophomore Rowan Evans, one of only two sophomores across the league receiving first-team accolades.
Continuing with a strong group of returning players next season, sophomores Payton Dagget and Mattie Wolcott were chosen by the coaches for second-team honors.
La Grande junior goalie Lyndia Isaacson was named honorable mention for the Greater Oregon League, joining sophomore Karli Kretschmer on the listing for honorable mention.
Ontario senior Itzel Hernandez was awarded the player of the year for the fall season and was joined by her coach, Javier Gonzalez, as coach of the year.
La Grande led the listing with eight players named followed by Pendleton with seven names on the list. Both Baker and Ontario had six players named to the all-league listing.
