WILSONVILLE — The start of the wrestling season marks the beginning of girls wrestling as a sanctioned sport by the Oregon School Activities Association, separate from its teammates on the boys side.

In the first official preseason poll voted upon by the state’s coaches, La Grande is a top-three team after the voting was tabulated. Competing in the 4A/3A/2A/1A ranks, the Tigers hold down the third position, behind Sweet Home and No. 1 La Pine.

One spot behind La Grande is the team just down the road, Baker/Powder Valley in the voting. Siuslaw rounds out the top five in the poll.
