College volleyball: Mounties overcome slow start to beat Montana Tech

SIOUX CITY, Iowa — The Eastern Oregon volleyball team found itself down a set and off to a slow start in the second before reeling off three straight to advance at the NAIA Volleyball National Championship Tournament on Friday afternoon. The Mountaineers turned back a tough Montana Tech team 12-25, 29-27, 25-21, 25-22 in Sioux City, Iowa.

It was the seventh consecutive victory for the Mountaineers over the Orediggers dating back to 2012 as they finished pool play at 2-0 in Pool C and now prepare for bracket play.

The Mounties had three players in double figures in kills led by Keira Vaughn’s 15. Sade Williams added 11 and Kiauna Mack chipped in with 10. Alexis McMurtrey orchestrated the offense with 24 assists and Hailey Arritola led the way with 27 digs.

Montana Tech was led by Olivia Muir’s 16 kills and Maureen Jessop added 13.

With the win, Eastern Oregon now sits at 33-1 on the year while extending its current win streak to 22 matches. The Mountaineers advance to the quarterfinals at 6 p.m. Dec. 2 against the winner of Pool F.
