College men’s wrestling: Mountaineers defeat Geoducks, place five at Clackamas Open

OREGON CITY — It was a productive weekend for the Eastern Oregon University men’s wrestling team, which took home a dual victory over Evergreen State and saw five athletes place at the Clackamas Open

Eastern Oregon 46, Evergreen State 12
In the first event of the weekend for the Mountaineers on Saturday, Dec. 2, the team cruised to a 46-12 victory over Evergreen State on the road in Olympia, Washington.
Eastern Oregon defeated Evergreen State in every weight class, with the exception of forfeits at the 125- and 133-pound divisions.
The Mountaineers started off with four points from Josh Collins at 141, who won on a 13-4 major decision. The ensuing seven matches for Eastern Oregon were all won by fall.
Travis Sherman (149), Trace Evans (157), and Cody Glenn (165) earned three consecutive victories by fall to allow Eastern Oregon to take a 22-12 lead.
Wylee Lindeen (174), JR Scott (184), Jay Smith (197), and Jesse Vassey (285) closed out the match with victories by fall to give Eastern Oregon a 46-12 victory. The win improved the Mountaineers’ record in Cascade Collegiate Conference duals to 3-1 this season.
Clackamas Open
The Mountaineers finished off the weekend strong at the Clackamas Open on Sunday, Dec. 3. Eastern Oregon tallied five total placewinners, two of which were crowned champions of their weight class.
Braden Carson, a La Grande native, was Eastern Oregon’s champion in the 133-pound weight class. Carson went 3-0 on the day, winning by major decision, fall, and a 4-1 decision in the final match to defeat Clackamas Community College’s Tim Lopez.
In the 184-pound division, Kyle Knudtson went 4-0 to win the weight class. He won by way of tech fall, consecutive pins, and an 11-4 decision in the final match to defeat Southern Oregon’s John White.
In the 125-pound division, Jackson Eylar placed second overall. Kaden Haugen took fourth at 133 and Vincent Cramer placed sixth at 157.
Coming off the productive weekend, Eastern Oregon is set for a quick turnaround before its next competition. The Mountaineers will head to Great Falls, Montana to face off with the University of Providence in a Cascade Collegiate Conference dual. The match is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
