College women’s basketball: Mountaineers fall to Raiders

ASHLAND — The Eastern Oregon University women’s basketball team dropped its second leg of a weekend road trip, falling to Southern Oregon 68-42 on Saturday, December 2.

The Mountaineers struggled in the first half, making it an uphill battle for the rest of the game. The loss dropped Eastern Oregon’s record to 4-2 on the season and 0-2 in Cascade Collegiate Conference play.
In the first quarter, Eastern Oregon shot 4-13 (30.8%) from the field compared to 8-17 (47.1%) for Southern Oregon. Things got worse offensively in the second quarter, as the Mountaineers shot 1-14 from the field and managed just two points. Southern Oregon held a 12-2 advantage in the second quarter to head into halftime leading 32-13.
The third quarter was more of the same, as the Raiders outscored the Mountaineers 22-14. Despite holding a 15-14 advantage in the final frame, it was too little too late as Eastern Oregon fell 68-42.

Brie Holocek and Bayley Brennan led the way with 10 points each, while Holocek also led the Mountaineers with nine rebounds. Southern Oregon maintained a 44-30 advantage on the boards.
Up next, Eastern Oregon will travel to Caldwell, Idaho to face the College of Idaho at 2 p.m. on Dec. 9.
