High school wrestling: Weekend of high school wrestling comes to La Grande

LA GRANDE — The wrestling mats in two locations will be filled this weekend as a host of teams will be in La Grande for two large high school wrestling tournaments.

On the mats at La Grande High School, 23 teams will be on hand for the annual Muilenburg Tournament beginning Friday, Dec. 8, and continuing through Saturday, Dec. 9.

Teams making the trip include Baker, Banks, Barlow, Bishop Kelly, Idaho, Burns, Columbia, Washington, Eatonville, Washington, Echo, Elgin, Enterprise, Estacada, Glenns Ferry, Idaho, Graham-Kapowsin, Washington, Hermiston, Imbler, La Grande, McLoughlin, Oregon City, Pendleton, Sandy, Scappoose, Union/Cove and Weiser, Idaho.

The teams take to the mat at 3 p.m. Dec. 8 with the action on Dec. 9 beginning at 9 a.m.

Across town, the girls will be on the mats of Eastern Oregon University for the Safeway Girls Buckle Classic also beginning Dec. 8 and ending action on Dec. 9.

Teams representing Baker, Barlow, Eagle, Idaho, Eastonville, Washington, Enterprise, Estacada, Glenns Ferry, Idaho, Grant Union, Heppner, Imbler, La Grande, Lake City, Idaho, Madras, McLoughlin, Ontario, Oregon City, Pendleton, Rocky Mountain, Idaho, Sandy and Scappoose will battle for the buckle going to the champion in each weight division.

The action begins at 3 p.m. on Dec. 8 and kicks off action on Dec. 9 at 9 a.m.
