College men’s wrestling: Eastern Oregon drops dual at University of Providence

GREAT FALLS, Mont. — The Eastern Oregon University men’s wrestling program dropped its Cascade Collegiate Conference dual at the University of Providence by a score of 28-15 on Thursday, December 7.

The loss dropped the Mountaineers’ record in CCC duals to 3-2 on the season.

Eastern Oregon started off the match on a high note, as the Mountaineers took the first two matchups. At 125, Hunter Sparks defeated Deandre Coles by fall in four minutes. Braden Carson (133) extended the lead to 9-0 by winning a 3-2 tiebreaker over Kina’u McBrayer.

Following the strong start, University of Providence rallied five straight matches in order to completely flip the script of the dual. The Mountaineers dropped matches at 149, 157, 165, and 174 to fall behind 20-9.

Eastern Oregon bounced back at 184, as Kyle Knudtson defeated Alan Badley by fall in a time of 2:43. The win cut the deficit to 20-15.

The Argos finished the dual on top, winning at 197 by decision and 285 by tech fall to win the match 28-15.

Coming off the loss, the Mountaineers will return to action next week. Eastern Oregon is set for duals against Montana State University-Northern and Saint Ambrose University on Dec. 15 in Reno, Nevada. The Mountaineers will remain in Nevada for the Reno Tournament of Champions on Dec. 17-18.
