College women’s basketball: Mountaineers drop road matchup at the College of Idaho

CALDWELL, Idaho — Despite a sharp shooting night from Mountaineers senior Bayley Brennan, the Eastern Oregon University women’s basketball team dropped its matchup at the College of Idaho by a score of 69-63 on Saturday, December 9.

The loss, which is Eastern Oregon’s third straight, dropped the team’s record to 4-3 on the season. Brennan hit seven three pointers and finished with a team-high 25 points in the loss.

Eastern Oregon kept the game close early, falling behind by a narrow 17-15 margin at the end of the first quarter. Brennan went 3-3 in the first half and racked up 11 points to help the Mountaineers head into halftime trailing just 31-30. Beverly Slater dominated the boards, tallying eight rebounds through the first two quarters — she finished with 13 on the day.

In the third quarter, the Mountaineers pulled ahead for their largest lead of the game. Eastern Oregon led at the 2:15 mark in the third quarter and went into the fourth quarter with the game tied at 50-50.

The Yotes hit their stride in the fourth quarter, holding a 19-13 margin. Mia Austin led the College of Idaho in the second half, scoring 15 points — she finished with a game-high 26. The game was tied at 61-61 with 2:45 remaining, before the Yotes pulled away to close the game on an 8-2 run and win the game by six points.

Coming off the loss, Eastern Oregon will look to bounce back on yet another road trip. Matchups at Warner Pacific (dec. 15) and Multnomah (Dec. 16) will conclude a streak of five consecutive road games.
