High school girls basketball: Imbler has perfect tournament showing

NORTH POWDER — The Imbler girls basketball team recorded a perfect 3-0 record at the Calvin Hiatt Tournament and upped its season record to 5-0 after a weekend of action.

The Panthers kicked off tournament play 44-29 victory over Four Rivers. The Imbler defense held the Falcons to only six points in the first half and on the offensive side of the ball, Rachael Stirewalt had nine points to lead the Panther win.

On Dec. 8, Imbler dominated Harper, rolling to a 71-16 victory. Five Panthers recorded double figures led by Stirewalt’s 17 points to lead all scorers in the game. Paiten Braseth added 13 points and Jayda Cant ended the game with 11 points. Both Marlen Rivas and Paige Braseth ended with 10 points.

Imbler wrapped up the weekend on Dec. 9 with its closest game of the tournament, a 61-49 win over Adrian. The Panthers started quickly in this one, putting up 21 points in the first quarter before cooling in the second quarter with 12 points to lead 33-26 at the half.

Stirewalt was dominate, putting in 22 points for Imbler with Paiten Braseth adding 18 points.

“The girls are working hard, playing good defense and working together as a team,” Imbler head coach Darci Sweet said.

Imbler (5-0 overall) continues with nonleague tournament play on Dec. 15, traveling to Grant Union for the 13 Mile Shootout. The Panthers begin the tournament meeting the host 2A Prospectors (1-4 overall).
