High school basketball roundup: Teams open play at Bobcat Classic

UNION — Local teams hit the court on Thursday, Dec. 14, to open basketball action at the Bobcat Classic in Union.

The Cove girls opened play with a 41-36 victory over Harper Charter. The Leopards will see host Union next on Dec. 15.

The Powder Valley girls took a 20-point win over Elgin, 45-25. Powder Valley will take on the Harper on Dec. 15 while Elgin looks to rebound with a Dec. 15 game against 2A Enterprise.

The Union girls suffered a heartbreaking loss to begin their home tournament. Tied at 48-all with no time left on the clock, the Bobcats could only watch from the sidelines as Enterprise’s Kimber Stein hit a free throw to give the Outlaws a 49-48 win over Union.

The Union boys remained perfect on the year with Tee Ledbetter putting in 31 points to push the Bobcats to a 72-58 victory over 2A Enterprise. Union attempts to stay perfect with a Dec. 15 game against Cove.

The Leopards will meet Union after downing Harper, 71-36, with the Leopards leading from the start.

Powder Valley grabbed a 41-34 victory over Elgin as the two teams started tournament play. The Badgers continue on Dec. 15 with a game against Harper Charter while the Huskies look to rebound against 2A Enterprise.
