High school girls wrestling: Elgin finishes fifth at own tournament

ELGIN — In addition to their hosting duties over two days of action, the Elgin girls wrestling team managed a fifth-place showing as the Elgin Memorial Classic wrapped up action on Saturday, Dec. 16.

Union finished one spot behind the Huskies in sixth and Imbler tied for seventh with Enterprise.

Elgin finished the two days with 28 points led by a championship showing by Jacie Lathrop wrestling at 135 pounds. Lathrop finished 3-0 for the tournament, winning the title over Weiser’s Samantha Kingsbury by pin at the 56 second mark of the match. At 120 pounds, Amber George placed third for Elgin.

Union picked up points when Madison Cathey placed third in the 110-pound class after wrestling to a 3-1 record for the tournament. At 235 pounds, Union’s Hailey Wright finished fourth after a 2-2 showing for the tournament.

Wrestling for Imbler, the lone Panther, Lucy Camacho, placed second in the 155-pound classification. Camacho fell to Weiser’s Aliyah Alhilla in the championship match.

Elgin will take some time off for the holidays before returning to action on Jan. 27 for the Bank of Eastern Oregon Girls tournament. 

Union is not taking time off, scheduled to appear at Riverside High School on Friday, Dec. 21 for the Rumble on the River.

Camacho and Imbler is not scheduled to return to competition until Dec. 28 in Ontario.
