High school basketball roundup: Imbler finds mixed results from Union tournament

UNION — Imbler boys basketball coach Tony Haddock can take away both positive and negative after the Panthers wrapped up action at the Bobcat Classic on Saturday, Dec. 16, in Union.

Imbler opened the tournament on Dec. 15 with a 45-42 loss to Grant Union.
“We were sloppy and turned the ball over way too much,” Haddock said. “We can’t be lackadaisical with the ball and expect to win.”
In the loss, Jake Bingaman led Imbler with 11 points. Henry Treat followed with 10 points.

The Panthers evened up their tournament record on Dec. 16 with a 43-34 win over Prairie City/Burnt River.
“We were sloppy in the first half again but tightened up a little in the second,” Haddock said. “The defensive rotations were way better and worked inside out versus the zone instead of outside in.”
In the victory, Justin Frost exploded for the Panthers with 21 points.
Imbler (6-1 overall) starts a three-day road trip on Dec. 20 with a game in Enterprise (9-1 overall).
Powder Valley ends Bobcat Classic with loss
UNION — After two successive wins playing at the Bobcat Classic in Union, the Powder Valley boys basketball team saw the tournament end with a loss to the host Bobcats on Saturday, Dec. 16.
The Badgers opened the three days with a 41-34 win over Elgin to open play followed by a 51-36 victory over Harper on Dec. 15.
Facing the top-ranked 1A team in the state and playing on their home court, Union took a 67-32 win over the Badgers.
Team and individual statistics were not provided for the games.
The Badgers (5-3 overall) travel to 2A Grant Union (6-3 overall) on Tuesday, Dec. 19 in nonleague play.
Badgers extend win streak to five games
UNION — The Powder Valley girls basketball team has now seen victories in their last five games after picking up two wins at the Bobcat Classic in the Union gym.
The Badgers started the tournament with a 45-25 victory over Elgin on Thursday, Dec. 14. Powder Valley returned to the court on Dec. 16 to claim a 44-37 win over the host Bobcats.
Powder Valley held a comfortable 25-13 margin at the half with both teams experiencing a low scoring third quarter, each adding seven points to the team totals.
Kellee Dixon led all scorers in the game with 15 points. Jaycee and Gray and Janie Bingham each added six points.
Powder Valley (5-2 overall) is on the road on Dec. 19 to John Day to take on Grant Union (1-8 overall) in nonleague play. The Prospectors will take the court attempting to break a seven-game loss streak.
