High school swimming: Tigers swim to home meet victory

LA GRANDE — Playing host at Veterans’ Memorial Pool on Saturday, Dec. 16, the La Grande swim team won the combined team score after seeing the boys take first place, while the girls tied with Pendleton in the team scoring.

Both the Tigers and Buckaroos ended the girls meet with 105 points, while the boys outscored The Dalles, 82-71. In the combined scores, La Grande outdistanced Pendleton 187-159 to take the day’s title.

The Tigers started the girls meet with a win as Anica Setser, McKinley Kruse, Rinnah Lynch and Shiloh Lynch hit the wall ahead of the competition in the 200-yard medley relay, winning in a time of 2 minutes, 4.63 seconds.

Setser continued her day with a victory in the 200-yard freestyle, posting a time of 2:12.80. Shiloh Lynch also grabbed a second win, taking the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 1:00.71.

Kruse, Shiloh Lynch, Sester then joined freshman Hannah Zamora for a win in the 400-yard freestyle relay. Zamora also saw a first-place showing in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 27.67 seconds and another victory in the 100-yard breaststroke.

Rinnah Lynch picked up her second win of the day in the 100-yard butterfly event, taking a time of 1:09.35 and continuing with a victory in the 100-yard backstroke.

The La Grande boys started the day with a victory in the 200-yard medley relay with a team of Jake Weigand, Jayden Riley, Zane Ricker and Evan Zastrow. The team was the lone group under two minutes for the race with a time of 1:54.29.

Ricker was back in the pool for a win in the 200-yard freestyle and the distance event, the 500-yard freestyle and Zastrow won his 100-yard freestyle race.

Riley also took an individual title, winning the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:30.09. Weigand joined the group winning individual titles taking the 100-yard butterfly race and the 100-yard backstroke.
