JOHN DAY — When a team shoots 85% from the field, a good bet is a victory. That is exactly what took place as 2A Grant Union handed 1A Union the Bobcats’ first loss, 81-77, on Thursday, Dec. 21, in John Day.

“It didn’t matter how contested or open they were, nearly every shot went down for them,” Union head coach Odin Miller said referring to Grant Union’s shooting 7-for-9 from the 3-point line and overall games percentage. “A lot of teams shoot in streaks but they sustained that level the entire second half. We played well and executed down the stretch making shots and showing hear. We just couldn’t overcome GU’s scorching hot shooting.”
This was a high scoring affair for both teams. At halftime, Grant Union led by only a single point, 31-30. Even with the Bobcats (8-1 overall) placing 28 points on the board in the final quarter, Grant Union’s shooting in the second half garnered the win for the Prospectors.
Union’s Chase Koshinsky led the way with 25 points and Tee Ledbetter added 22, while Trae Frank added 15.
