High school wrestling roundup: Union girls post top-five finish in Boardman

BOARDMAN — The Union girls wrestling squad picked up a top-five team finish competing at the Rumble on the River, Friday, Dec. 21, on the mats at Riverside High School.

The Bobcats ended the competition with 51 points, eight points shy of fourth-place Irrigon.
Three wrestlers led Union with second-place finishes. Emma Burtch, wrestling in the 100-pound class, split her two matches with a win and a loss, placing second. At 110 pounds, Madison Cathey wrestled her way to a 2-1 showing for second place.
Milah Fincher finished her day with a 3-1 record, falling only in the championship match in the 135-pound division by pin to Echo’s Averi Fisher.

Union will be on the road on Dec. 28 to Ontario to take part in the Charlie Anthony Tournament.
Bobcat boys outside top 10 at Rumble On River
BOARDMAN — The Union boys wrestling squad finished 11th at the Rumble on the River on Friday, Dec. 21, after scoring 26 points for the day’s action.
The entirety of the Bobcat point total came as Sam Platz was crowed champion in the 165-pound classification. Platz wrestled to a perfect 4-0 record on the day, capping it off with a 9-5 decision over Irrigon’s Zachary Parton in the championship match. Platz now sits at 8-3 for the season.
Platz and the remainder of the team will travel to Enterprise on Dec. 27 for the Union County versus Wallowa County Duals.
