High school girls wrestling: Tigers third at huge Rollie Lane

NAMPA, Idaho — La Grande faced 72 opposing teams representing a number of states at the Rollie Lane Girls Invitational in Nampa, Idaho, and as the two days of tournament action wound down on Saturday, Jan. 6, the Tigers picked up third place in the team scores, the top finish for any Oregon squad.

Thunder Ridge High School, an Idaho school, placed first with 158.5 points followed by Reed, Nevada, with 139 points. La Grande totaled 135.5 points for third place.
Paige Allen finished the tournament with the top finish. Wrestling in the 132-pound class, Allen finished 5-1 over the two days, falling only in the championship match to Zoe Ortiz, of Bonneville, Idaho. Ortiz, undefeated this season at 14-0, pinned Allen at the 3 minute, 37 second mark in the final match.
At 152 pounds, Kaitlin Brock picked up fifth place after a 5-2 showing. Also placing fifth, Maddie Armstrong finished 5-2 at 165 pounds, picking up her finish with a pin over Boise’s Marisa Patterson.

La Grande continues to attend large tournaments on Jan. 12 with a trip to Redmond for the two-day Oregon Classic.
