Podcasts and other resources enhance weekly lesson

NORTHEAST OREGON — Members of the congregations of the region’s Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints congregations will speak during Sacrament services on Sunday, Jan. 14. The second hour of services will be Priesthood, Relief Society and youth meetings.

The “Come, Follow Me” lesson for the week of Jan. 8 is based on the first five chapters of the Book of Mormon, 1 Nephi 1-5. The lesson focuses on the struggles faced by the family of Lehi who in 600 BC followed the Lord’s direction to flee the wickedness of Jerusalem in search of a promised land. To expand on the lesson, check out the supplemental resources and podcasts, from private individuals, which can be found on YouTube or on the church’s website.

Confession is a great comfort

LA GRANDE — At the 10 a.m. Divine service on Sunday, Jan. 14, Faith Lutheran Church in La Grande will welcome a new communicant through adult confirmation. After some teachings in the basic doctrine of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod, a person is provided the opportunity to confess the Triune God. This is great comfort because Jesus said, “So everyone who acknowledges Me before men, I will also acknowledge before My Father who is in heaven” (Matthew 10:32).

The service’s sermon will use John 1:43-51 in which Nathanael was confused how Jesus knew him. When Jesus identified that he saw him under the fig tree, Nathanael realized then that Jesus was “the Son of God.” God surely sees us all the time, and we also are led to make that good confession.
