High school boys basketball: Cove snaps three-game slide with win in North Powder

NORTH POWDER — After suffering losses the last three times on the court, including in the league opener, Cove reversed its fortunes with a 51-36 win over Powder Valley on Friday, Jan. 12, in North Powder.

The Leopards doubled up on the Badgers, outscoring Powder Valley, 16-8, to start the game. Adding 10 points in the second, Cove led 26-14 at the half.
Powder Valley started the second half at a snail’s pace with only five points, while Cove continued the pace from the first half, adding 14 additional points to their total.
The Leopards’ Micah Jayne caught fire from the perimeter, sinking four 3-pointers and finishing with 14 points. Wyatt Burgess also had 14 points for his night.

The Badgers were led by Jordan Davis and his 11 points in the loss.
Cove (11-5 overall, 1-1 1A Old Oregon League) was scheduled to return to the home court on Jan. 13, hosting Joseph (5-9 overall, 1-1 1A Old Oregon League).
Powder Valley (7-9 overall, 1-2 1A Old Oregon League) next takes the court on Jan. 19 in Joseph to face the Eagles.
