High school boys wrestling: Elgin, Union take on Idaho teams at Padilla Invitational

PARMA, Idaho — The wrestling teams from both Elgin and Union took the mats against a number of Idaho teams, wrapping up two days of action at the Padilla Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 13, at Parma High School.

The Elgin boys placed 13th in the team standings with 66.5 points, while Union, with five points, closed out the tournament in 21st.

The Huskies were led by two wrestlers finishing the two days in third place. Wrestling at 106 pounds, Landyn Fincher finished with a 5-1 tournament showing, picking up third place with a pin over Jesus Cito-Rodriguez, of Payette, Idaho, to close out his tournament. Also taking third, Ty McLaughlin pinned Nyssa’s Joaquin Cuevas at 170 pounds to finish 6-1 for the two days.

Adding to the point total for Elgin, Gen Wintersteen finished fourth at 160 pounds.

For Union, Larry McKaig wrestled to a 3-2 record at 152 pounds and Austin Ritter finished with a 1-2 record at 182 pounds.
