High school girls wrestling: La Grande wrestles to second place at Oregon Classic Duals

REDMOND — Braving snowy roads and cold temperatures, La Grande battled it all, finishing second in the team standings at the Oregon Classic Duals in Redmond, wrapping up action on Saturday, Jan. 13.

Placed in Pool C to start the tournament, the Tigers started off the tournament with a 66-18 victory over Rainier. Round two saw La Grande dominate Bend, 78-4, before picking up a bye in round three. La Grande had no problem in round four with Sutherlin, winning 78-6 and came out of pool competition in the top spot after downing Sweet Home, 63-15.

La Grande started the march towards a title with a 69-12 victory over Tillamook in quarterfinal action. Advancing to the semifinals, the Tigers downed Dallas, 51-30.

In the championship dual on the mat on Jan. 13, Thurston handed the Tigers their first loss of the two days with a 45-33 win.

For the two days of action, the following is the individual results:

At 102 pounds, Rhiley Lees finished 5-2.

At 107 pounds, Dora Galindo finished 1-0.

At 107 pounds, Kierstyn Azure finished 4-2.

At 112 pounds, Avrey Robinson finished 6-1.

At 117 pounds, Florecita Vaillagomez finished 4-3.

At 122 pounds, Lyndie Isaacson finished a perfect 7-0.

At 127 pounds, Maleigha Azure finished 5-2.

At 132 pounds, Riley Robinson finished 3-4.

At 137 pounds, Paige Allen finished a perfect 7-0.

At 142 pounds, Aubrey Hamner finished 1-6.

At 147 pounds, Lainey Wolfe finished 6-1.

At 157 pounds, Kaitlin Brock finished 6-1.

At 172 pounds, Maddy Armstrong finished a perfect 7-0.

At 192 pounds, Aliya Lenox finished 6-1.

At 237 pounds, Macy Iramk finished a perfect 7-0.
