Elders meet after Jan. 21 service

LA GRANDE — The La Grande First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) will gather for worship at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 21. Adult Bible study is offered before the service, at 9 a.m. After the service there will be an Elders meeting.

On Thursday, Jan. 18, the Homemakers Bible study meets at 1:30 p.m. On Jan. 22, the Mighty Men Bible study begins at 11 a.m., and the Devoted Daughterss group will meet at 4 p.m.

Worship will be streamed live

LA GRANDE — La Grande’s Zion Lutheran Church will worship on Sunday, Jan. 21, at 9 a.m. The service will include Holy Communion and a sermon based on Jonah 3:1-5 and Mark 1:14-20, titled “Spreading the Good News.”

The service will be streamed live for home viewing. The links will be posted on the church’s website and Facebook page Saturday evening.

Ward conferences planned

NORTHEAST OREGON — Ward conferences will be held Sunday, Jan. 21, for the region’s Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints congregations. Members of the Stake Presidency and Ward Bishoprics will speak during Sacrament services at the Baker Valley 1st, Baker Valley, Elgin and La Grande 1st, 2nd and 4th wards At all other locations, a member of the Stake High Council will speak on the 2024 youth theme: “We are Disciples of Jesus Christ.” Auxiliary group meetings will be held during the second hour of services.

The “Come, Follow Me” lesson for the week of Jan. 15 is based on 1 Nephi 6-10, which is found in the Book of Mormon. This lesson focuses on Lehi’s visions of the tree of life, iron rod, mists of darkness and spacious building and how to apply them in our own lives.

Church Council meeting set for Jan. 21

LA GRANDE — On Sunday, Jan. 21, the Divine service at Faith Lutheran Church in La Grande will begin at 10 a.m. The sermon will be based on Mark 1:14-20, in which Jesus calls Andrew and his brother Simon with: “Follow Me, and I will make you become fishers of men” (verse 17).

After the service is the January Church Council meeting. The council will receive reports from 2023 and consider options for working with some mission opportunities from extra donations.

Sermon talks about ‘Spreading the Good News’

LA GRANDE — The La Grande United Methodist Church will worship Sunday, Jan. 21, at 11 a.m. The sermon, “Spreading the Good News,” is based on Jonah 3:1-5 and Mark 1:14-20. A time of fellowship follows the service.

At 9:30 a.m. on Sundays, the Religious Inquiry Group meets in the downstairs library. The group is currently learning about Sikhism.
