STANFIELD — On the road and taking on the 13th ranked 2A team in the state, Union saw its four-game win streak come to an end as Stanfield downed the Bobcats, 74-58, on Tuesday, Jan. 16.

“Stanfield is a solid team that has a handful of players that are aggressive and can finish in traffic,” Union head coach Odin Miller said of the loss. “They have a very balanced attack and also make you uncomfortable with their defense.”

Miller said the Bobcats fell behind early in the game and “ran out of gas trying to close the gap.” In the loss, Union was outrebounded and on the wrong side of the turnover battle.

“It is hard to win when that happens,” Miller said referring to rebounds and turnovers. “Stanfield is a pretty tough place to play when they get cooking. The Tigers have a great chance to win the Blue Mountain Conference.”

Team and individual statistics were not available for the game.

Union (12-4 overall, 2-0 1A Old Oregon League) is back on the road on Jan. 19 with a return to league action in Echo (10-6 overall, 2-1 1A Old Oregon League).

Pilot Rock 57, Elgin 25

ELGIN — In a battle of two teams looking for that first league victory, Pilot Rock kept Elgin winless in league with a 57-25 win over the Huskies on Tuesday, Jan. 16, in Elgin.

The loss extends Elgin’s losing streak to 10 games with the last win back on Dec. 9 in a nonleague victory over Huntington.

Team and individual statistics were not provided for the game.

Elgin (2-12 overall, 0-2 1A Old Oregon League) plays a rescheduled league game on Jan. 18 on the road against Nixyaawii (10-3 overall, 3-0 1A Old Oregon League).
