BAKER CITY — La Grande failed to score a point in the latter parts of the second quarter and the beginning of the third quarter Friday, Jan. 26, but still avenged an earlier season loss with a 39-21 victory over Baker in 4A Greater Oregon League action.

The Bulldogs grabbed a 48-39 win in La Grande on Jan. 9.

“I thought our kids played much better under control offensively even with out 10-minute drought,” La Grande head coach Brian Wright said.

The Tigers led early, hitting the locker room at the half with a 23-17 margin. The La Grande defense then stepped up, holding Baker to just four points in the second half.

La Grande found 10 points from Olivia Pennington, all scored in just the first quarter, while Maezie Wilcox had nine points for the night.

The victory creates a logjam at the top of the league standings with three of four teams sporting just a single loss. The Tigers are 3-1, while both Pendleton and Baker are now 2-1.

La Grande (13-7 overall, 3-1 4A Greater Oregon League) will step away from the league crowd on Jan. 30 with a trip to 3A Nyssa (11-7 overall).
