High school girls basketball: Imbler picks up win over Wallowa

IMBLER — Rachael Stirewalt scored 14 points and Paiten Braseth added 10 points to lead Imbler to its third-straight win, a 39-34 victory over Wallowa in 1A Old Oregon League action on Saturday, Jan. 27.
The Panthers struggled from the tipoff, scoring only three points in the first quarter and falling behind 11-3 after the first eight minutes of play. The tables turned in the second quarter as Wallowa could only manage to add three points to their total, while Imbler started to find the basket, scoring 19 points to lead at the half 22-14.
The Panthers failed to find the same magic in the second half, adding eight points in the third and finishing with a nine-point fourth quarter.
Wallowa also added eight points in the third quarter but pulled the game close with a 12-point final eight minutes.
The Cougars’ Abby Straight scored 13 points and teammate Sophie Moeller ended her game with nine.
Imbler (16-6 overall, 6-1 1A Old Oregon League) looks to repeat an earlier victory in the season over Powder Valley (13-6 overall, 6-1 1A Old Oregon League) this time on Feb. 2 in the Badger gym.
Wallowa (12-8 overall, 3-4 1A Old Oregon League) fights to return to .500 in league play with a home game on Feb. 1 against Cove (4-17 overall, 0-7 1A Old Oregon League). In a nice change to the schedule, the girls will play after the boys with the Lady Cougars taking the court at 7 p.m.
