High school boys basketball: Elgin splits weekend, earns second league victory

ELGIN — The weekend of basketball action found both good and bad news for the Elgin boys basketball team.

At home and facing Union on Friday, Jan. 26, the Huskies took their second loss of the season to the Bobcats in a big way, 84-25 in Old Oregon League action. Union previously downed Elgin, 66-29, on Jan. 5 in the Bobcat gym.

Elgin bounced back on Jan. 27 taking the team’s second league win with a 50-32 game over Grizzlies. The margin of victory was close to the last time the two teams met as Elgin downed Griswold, 53-28, on Jan. 23.

Team and individual statistics were not provided for the weekend’s games by Elgin staff.

Elgin (4-13 overall, 2-3 1A Old Oregon League) remains on the home court on Feb. 1 hosting Nixyaawii (13-3 overall, 6-0 1A Old Oregon League). The game is slated for a late start with the teams taking the court at 8 p.m. instead of the usual 7:30 p.m. start time.
