UNION — Struggling to find points on the board, Union head coach Odin Miller changed strategies to find a 56-42 win over Pilot Rock on Saturday, Jan. 27, in 1A Old Oregon League action.

“It was a grind,” Miller said of the game. “We really struggled from the field so we relied on our press to change momentum and take control in the fourth. I give lots of credit to Pilot Rock for how well they shot and pressured us inside. League rivalry games can get crazy and we are happy to get through this one.”

The Bobcats led at halftime 32-20 after a slow start from the Rockets saw Pilot Rock place only seven points on the board in the first quarter.

It was Union’s turn to struggle in the third quarter as the Rockets outscored the Bobcats, 14-4. Taking easy baskets coming off the press in the fourth, the Bobcats bounced back with a 20-point end to the game.

Both Tee Ledbetter and Chase Koshinsky posted 12 points in the Union win. Trae Frank followed with 11 points.

Union (15-5 overall, 5-1 1A Old Oregon League) next meets their lone league loss of the season again. The Bobcats are on the road Jan. 30 to meet the Nixyaawii (13-3 overall, 6-0 1A Old Oregon League). The Golden Eagles handed the Bobcats a 67-54 loss on Jan. 23.
