LA GRANDE — With Baker, Cove and host La Grande in attendance, swim records fell as the three teams hit the pool on Saturday, Jan. 27, at Veterans’ Memorial Pool.

Cove’s Sarah Koza was responsible for two of the newest quick times, setting new fast times in both the 200-yard individual medley and the 100-yard breaststroke. In the medley, Koza hit the wall with a time of 2 minutes, 15.93 seconds to set a new bar for future competitors. The Leopard senior bested the previous record in the breaststroke event by almost one second, posting a new time of 1:10.59.

Cove sophomore Becca Koza also picked up a new meet record, winning the 50-yard freestyle race with a quick time of 25.10 seconds. This edged out a 2008 time of 25.14 set by Carrie Kelsey.

In addition to the new records, the Tigers grabbed the team titles in both boys, girls and overall. Baker placed second in the three categories with Cove taking third. In the overall points, La Grande finished with 224 points, followed by Baker’s 75 point total and Cove’s 39 points.

La Grande dominated the relay events including the top spots in the girls 200-yard medley race (Hannah Zamora, Rinnah Lynch, McKinely Kruse, Cecilia Villagomez-Edvalson), the boys 200-yard medley relay (Jake Weigand, Evan Zastrow, Jayden Riley, Griffin Gorham), the boys 200-yard freestyle race (Hunter Austin, Oliver Gorham, Weigard, Zane Ricker) and the girls 400-yard freestyle relay (Ginger Chandler, Zamora, Kruse, Lynch).
