High school boys basketball: Elgin braces for visit from OOL-leading Golden Eagles

Nixyaawii at Elgin
Time: 7:30 p.m.
Records: Nixyaawii (2) 14-3 overall, 7-0 1A Old Oregon League; Elgin (62) 4-13 overall, 2-3 1A Old Oregon League
Overview: Nixyaawii has not seen a loss since Dec. 16. After their second win over Union on Tuesday, Jan. 30, the Golden Eagles are now ranked second in the state 1A poll and like the Golden Eagles girls, the boys have yet to play Elgin.
Elgin hosts Nixyaawii after a home win over Griswold on Jan. 27. The Huskies have won two of their last three games, both victories coming over Griswold. An Elgin victory would be an upset and shake up the state poll.
Union at Griswold
Time: 7:30 p.m.
Records: Union (7) 15-6 overall, 5-2 1A Old Oregon League; Griswold (71) 2-15 overall, 0-6 1A Old Oregon League
Overview: For the second time this season, Union enters a game after falling to Nixyaawii by an identical loss of 16 points. The Bobcats, even with the loss, maintain a top-10 state 1A ranking and currently sit tied with Cove for third in the Old Oregon League.
Griswold hosts and still is searching for an elusive initial league victory. The Grizzlies have not seen the scoreboard go their way since Dec. 16.
Cove at Wallowa
Time: 7:45 p.m.
Records: Cove (16) 15-6 overall, 5-2 1A Old Oregon League; Wallowa (38) 9-12 overall, 3-4 1A Old Oregon League
Overview: Cove sits fourth in the Old Oregon League standings and are only one game behind Union. After finding wins in five straight games, the Leopards enter the Cougar gym coming off a loss on the road to Imbler by a single point. In the first meeting between the two teams, the Leopards won 53-46 in Cove.
Wallowa is finally back home for the first time since Jan. 12. The trip to five different schools ended with a 2-3 showing with the Cougars pleased to finally see the home gym and fans. Wallowa will finish out the regular season in front of the home fans.
