High school girls basketball: Cove goes on the road to Wallowa in search of first OOL win

Cove at Wallowa
Time: 6:30 p.m.
Records: Cove (54) 4-17 overall, 0-7 1A Old Oregon League; Wallowa (24) 12-8 overall, 3-4 1A Old Oregon League
Overview: The Leopards continue to struggle to place points on the board with only 584 points scored this season. Compare that to Imbler’s total of 963 points scored. Cove’s defense ranks last in the Old Oregon League as the team has given up 1,021 points.
The Cougars have seen wins in three of their last five games but are back home after a road loss to Imbler. Wallowa is currently eighth in the league standings and hold a top 25 standing in the state polls sitting at No. 24.
Nixyaawii at Elgin
Time: 6 p.m.
Records: Nixyaawii (36) 6-11 overall, 3-4 1A Old Oregon League; Elgin (37) 7-10 overall, 3-2 1A Old Oregon League
Overview: Two teams with similar records and state standings meet in an Old Oregon League conference game. The Golden Eagle girls have dropped their last two games, both home games. Nixyaawii and Wallowa are currently tied for eighth in the league standings with both teams holding down a 3-4 league record.
Elgin is playing the team’s third successive game at home, splitting the first two games with a win and a loss. Posting a 3-2 league record, the Huskies sit sixth in the league rankings. This will be the first meeting of the year between Elgin and the Golden Eagles.
Union at Griswold
Time: 6 p.m.
Records: Union (15) 16-5 overall, 6-1 1A Old Oregon League; Griswold (68) 6-11 overall, 0-6 1A Old Oregon League
Overview: The teams of Union, Imbler and Powder Valley all continue to chase the undefeated Echo girls in the league standings. The Bobcats have wins in their past four games, two of those road contests. The Union and Griswold girls failed to meet this season until this game.
The Griswold girls continue to struggle and have yet to see a victory in league play. After suffering three losses on the road, the Lady Grizzlies return home looking for an upset and the team’s first league victory.
