College baseball: Eastern Oregon drops doubleheader

The Eastern Oregon baseball team dropped a doubleheader to Western Oregon by scores of 12-8 and 7-4 on Saturday.

In the opener, the Wolves struck first with three runs in the second inning to take the early lead but EOU responded with three runs in the third and briefly took the lead in the fifth inning with a run to make it 4-3. However, Western Oregon seized control of the game with a six-run fifth.

The Mountaineers’ Chase Nett made it interesting in the sixth inning when he blasted a grand slam to pull EOU within 9-8, but Western Oregon would score three times in the eighth to pull away.

Mario Landeros had three of EOU’s 12 hits in the game.

The Mounties took early control of the second game, scoring four times in the fourth inning. Rogelio Gonz drove in two with a single to center and Youhyeon Cho platted two more with a base hit.

Western Oregon scored four times in the fifth and two more in the sixth to secure the win.

EOU is now 5-4 on the season and has two more against Western Oregon on Sunday.
